Main Issues
- The Quemetco facility demonstrates the current failure to regulate adequately stationary source pollution and the localized impacts from these sources. While the District considers itself in compliance with lead in air emissions, this facility reported to emitting 306 lbs in 2002–2003. Cumulative impacts and the need to focus on localized impacts at local impacts. For example, lead in the south coast air basin is in attainment, yet the local impacts of this and other lead emissions is of deep concern. Stationary versus mobile sources of pollution — who is minding the store?
- Failure of risk assessment and the failure of to actually make policy choices that are protective of communities using the information generated from risk assessment.
- Health impacts of goods movement
